FAQs

Cardano is a public proof-of-stake blockchain designed to support digital payments, smart contracts, decentralised applications and on-chain governance.

The network launched in 2017 and uses a proof-of-stake protocol called Ouroboros.

ADA is the native cryptocurrency of Cardano. It is used to pay transaction fees, participate in staking and take part in the network's governance.

Cardano supports smart contracts and native tokens, allowing developers to build decentralised applications and issue digital assets on the network.

How to trade Cardano (ADA) with Axi?

Axi gives you three ways to access the ADA market, depending on whether you want to trade its price or buy and own the cryptocurrency.

Trade Cardano CFDs

ADA CFDs let you trade movements in the price of Cardano without owning ADA.

You can go long if you expect ADA to rise or short if you expect it to fall. CFDs are traded using margin, so leverage increases your market exposure and can magnify both profits and losses.

Trade ADA perpetual futures

ADA perpetual futures are leveraged derivatives that track the price of Cardano without giving you ownership of ADA.

They allow both long and short positions and, unlike traditional futures contracts, do not have a fixed expiry date. Periodic funding payments help keep the perpetual price aligned with the underlying spot market.

Buy and hold ADA

If you want to own Cardano rather than trade a derivative, you can buy ADA directly through Axi's spot market.

Your ADA is held in your Axi Wallet and can be sold later through the spot market. Spot purchases do not use leverage, so you pay the full value of the ADA you buy.

All three provide exposure to the price of ADA, but they work differently. CFDs and perpetual futures are derivatives, while spot trading gives you ownership of ADA itself.

Comparison of Cardano CFDs, perpetual futures and spot ADA

ADA's price is influenced by activity on the Cardano network as well as conditions across the wider cryptocurrency market.

Key factors include:

  • Crypto market sentiment: ADA can move alongside broader changes in Bitcoin, Ethereum and the overall digital-asset market.
  • Cardano network activity: Growth in transactions, applications and other uses of the blockchain can affect demand for ADA.
  • Protocol upgrades: Changes to Cardano's scalability, functionality and infrastructure can influence expectations for the network.
  • Smart contracts and DeFi: Adoption by developers and growth in decentralised applications can affect interest in Cardano.
  • Staking: ADA is used in Cardano's proof-of-stake system, making staking participation and network activity relevant to its ecosystem.
  • Governance: ADA holders can participate in Cardano's on-chain governance, giving the token a role in decisions about the network's future.
  • Regulation: Changes in cryptocurrency regulation can affect access to ADA and broader market sentiment.
  • Macroeconomic conditions: Interest rates, liquidity and investors' appetite for risk can influence cryptocurrency markets.

ADA traders often monitor Cardano network upgrades, developer and dApp activity, staking participation, governance developments, cryptocurrency regulation and broader crypto-market sentiment.

Bitcoin and Ethereum price movements can also affect ADA, particularly during periods of strong market-wide volatility.

If you trade ADA through CFDs or perpetual futures, also monitor leverage, margin requirements and financing or funding costs. Spot ADA holders do not face leveraged-position liquidation but remain fully exposed to changes in ADA's market price
